Why was your name chosen for you? Do you know? Is there anything interesting about your name and how you came by it?
Hi there!
This is no longer an active blog. Sorry about that! I've moved my most intriguing questions and answers to my personal blog, shirleytwofeathers. There are some good links here, so feel free to explore, have a great day!

So... there is a "story" in my family that my parents were going to name their kids "Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy"... but that scenario got all messed up when the second child was a boy.
I don't know the truth of that story, and it seems to me that my parents were sure I was going to BE a boy. In which case my name was all picked out, and everyone would be calling me Billy Toefeathers instead of Shirley Twofeathers...
When I surprised them by being a girl, they finally agreed on "Shirley" after a friend of the family - a person I met like, twice in my life. You'd think that if I was named after a friend of the family, it would at least be a close enough friend that I would get to know them a little bit...
Anyway...
Those are my stories, and I'm sticking to them.
The name Cynthia means "moon goddess" and I always LOVED that! I never went through a phase where I disliked my name like so many people do. I have always loved the moon and felt very connected to it, so the whole thing makes sense.
The back story to my name is that my parents knew they wanted to call me Cindy but they were originally going to make my official name be Cinderella. When my mom was filling out the birth certificate, she chickened out at the last minute, realizing that I would probably be made fun of my entire life. I am SO VERY GRATEFUL that she changed her mind - I think had I grown up with the name Cinderella I would be one messed up girl!

Hi Shirley :) You have one heck of an interesting family, my dear and it looks like you are following in their footsteps, all right.
I was named after Marilyn Monroe and subsequently have been fascinated by her life as well as her career. :)
Hi cindy h :)
Absolutely LOVE the story of your name and it's a VERY good thing that your parents didn't love the movie, "Snow White." ;)
Hi,My surname (Story) has come in for some ridicule over the years, especially as a kid.Now the name everyone uses for me is Bob,which originally came to me as a fairly small child (4ish). I would swing every day on the gate at the bottom of the Garden, sometimes for hours on end, watching people go by and waving and chatting. An old boy used to go by twice a day on his way to his allotment,as he did he shouted hello "hoppity bob", why we dont know? but its stuck, first with family then friends. I much pefer that to my own christian name (no I'm not telling you)so thats what I've called myself for over 50 years now.
