Bedtime stories

What was your favorite bedtime story when you were a kid? What's your favorite bedtime story now?

I loved the story of Baba Yaga.. it's an old russian folk tale about a witch who lived in the forest. Her house had chicken legs, and it walked around.

Nowadays, I like bedtime stories in the form of movies.

My favorite bedtimes stories were stories that my mom told me about what things were like when she was growing up. It was really interesting to learn how different things were in KCMO in the 1930s and '40s. She told me of her love for swimming, of how the family would go camp out at Liberty Memorial with hundreds of other families during the really hot summer nights since nobody had air conditioning, and how when she started her period for the first time she didn't know what it was and she thought she was dying. My mom and I were very close and I loved those bedtime stories and cherish them to this day!

Almost every night, my father would improvise and make up bedtime stories for my older brother and me to hear. It was a wonderful ritual along with a cuddle from Mom.

This helped our family bond and did not realize at the time how lucky I was to have this bonding each night before we went to sleep!
