Hi there!
This is no longer an active blog. Sorry about that! I've moved my most intriguing questions and answers to my personal blog, shirleytwofeathers. There are some good links here, so feel free to explore, have a great day!

a stupid question? is there such a thing? i think there is. it usually happens when one is inebriated, very tired, or mentally slow. for example...your fifth grader asks, "how do you spell I?" or someone asks "why are you mad at me?" when they have clearly done something offensive. or, a drunk asks, "ohh buht i'm still justh fine, fine, why did jou take my keyth?" or how about this one? "mommy can i go play in the street?" yeah. NO! but i don't think stupid questions deserve a stupid answer....unless the person being asked is just as stupid as the person that asked....
Here is what I think:
If you are asking a question because you really want to know the answer... like for example... you are wondering if today, this one time only, and because it's not raining.. that it might just be OK to play in the street... then it's not a stupid question.
If, however, you are asking the question just to get a rise out of your mother.. then it just might fall into the category of stupid... especially if today it's the 50th time you've asked that question and she has a migraine headache and a sharp knife in her hand.
So my opinion is... if you really want to know the answer to something - it's not stupid to ask the question. But if you are asking a question to annoy someone, or to attract some negative attention... then yes.. I think it's stupid, and not deserving of even a stupid answer.
I'm not sure about rhetorical questions.. are they stupid? I guess that would depend on the context...
"a stupid question? is there such a thing? i think there is. it usually happens when one is inebriated, very tired, or mentally slow."
Some people, both children and adults, are slow with their processing. If they are sincere in their question, some that think much faster, should not judge or be rude to others that do not think as sharply or have always had difficulty with verbal or communicating skills.
There is much impatience in the world for people with learning disabilities. After they turn 18, they are on their own in a very cruel, fast, impatient world and unfortunaetely it is only getting worse.
well i never claimed to be politically correct, and i am offended at the notion that you would believe that i could ever make fun of truly mentally disabled people....i meant like when you haven't had any sleep for four days and your processing is slow, and you aren't noticing what is immediately around you because of it, or when you are selfishly making everything in the world pertain to yourself and you refuse to take a look at the big picture. it is a cruel, fast, and impatient world. and it is true that if you can't communicate in it you are in deep sh*t. but only you yourself can change your patterns of behavior....just believe in yourself! you can do it!
I always believed the teachers in classes who said, "there are no stupid questions", and most of the time, at least in adult classes, when someone asks a question, it is the same question half the class has, but were afraid to ask. However, there does seem to always be that one person in the class who just seems to like the sound of their own voice and keeps asking the same "stupid" things over and over, to the chagrin of everybody else. So I think the answer is yes, there are some stupid questions out there!!!
And Michelle, I have no doubt that you don't make fun of mentally challenged people, you are a very sweet, caring person!
thank you cindy.....

Sometimes, they think everybody else does know the answer and they are too afraid to ask for fear of being ridiculed and ostracized by the others. They fear being called retarded and so they learn to act out so they can fit in. They laugh with others about long jokes because they don,'t process the punch line. If they ask anyone to repeat it the others laugh at their "stupidity".
Humans in general love pets but they most often have little patience with other humans that cannot think and make decisions as fast as they can.
I agree, there is always that person who just loves to hear themselves talk...
and some even become hot air personalities on am radio! ;)
"there is always that person who just loves to hear themselves talk."..or maybe they just want someone to listen to them?
