According to the Gnostic Gospels, Jesus said

"If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you."

What is within you?

Within me is love, compassion, and peace. Hopefully having these things within me brings them for into my life. I'm not sure about the rest of the statement, though...as far as what you don't bring for destroying you...I think if you have meanness and hate within you, you do bring that forth into your life and it does destroy you. I hope this makes sense, it's 5 in the morning!

Helping my students think for themselves and stay out of jail helps save me from the pettiness of human nature!

For me, what I have within me that is begging to come forth is all of these fantastic stories and amazing characters and phenomenal worlds that want to live and breathe and be experienced - and touch hearts and minds and make the world a better place by making people think and feel in a different way.

If I can bring that forth, it will save me from a job I don't like and create instead an exciting new career where I have control over what I do and who I work with and how I make an impact in the world, and it will create a constant stream of supply - of money, of contacts, of resources to support all of my creative efforts.

If I do not bring it forth, it will destroy me by constantly causing me to be dissatisfied with what I currently have in my life - it will be the silent echo of "what could have been" that will haunt me, slowly driving me over the edge, withering me up until I'm just a shell of a human, waiting for this existence to finally end. It would be a very painful and morose way to be for the rest of my boring, mundane life.

So my lesson learned here is that I cannot and must not suppress my creative insticts, but I must live by them for they will guide and protect me.

Melissa, this is really a great question! One of those questions that takes days, maybe even weeks to really get a grip on I think.

My first thought was of a wild animal caged and pacing. Either I free it or it eats me alive from the inside out.

Sometimes I think we are terrified of what's inside... that if we let it out it will either be destroyed or it will destroy us.

I look at my daughter... she holds so much compassion and power inside that it requires a lot of ... really a lot of weight and padding and heaviness to keep it all contained. She tells me that she doesn't believe in it.. but she must believe very strongly or she wouldn't be so determined to keep it all in.

It's so much easier to look at other people and see what they are holding in. When I look at me... into me... I see bits and pieces of something .. something dangerous and wild... dangerous to who? wild about what? I don't know... I'm going to have to really think about it..
