If you were absolutely quiet for one day

what do you think you would hear?

My heart beating...
the wind blowing...
the grass growing...
love shining...

God?

This is really a good question. Years ago, I used to take one day a week and not say a word for the whole day... it wasn't so much a "be silent" day as it was a "shut up" day... and it was really centering...

I wonder what would happen if I took one day a week to "be silent"... hey, I might even try it out.

I truly savor the sounds of silence and try to practice it at least weekly. It's a lot easier when you live with just one other person who is gone a lot. Also, since I usually stay up all night and sleep during the day, it makes it easier to not talk to anybody or have to listen to anybody, either.

I love listening to nature - which right now is even easier since a window is broken in my house and the cardboard covering it up isn't insulating the sounds - and right when the cicadas are at their loudest! (Which I enjoy!)

Sometimes I get lonely but most of the time I really enjoy not talking! I don't even talk to the cats or dogs on most days since I can communicate with them without speaking aloud.

My granddaughter lives in a very noisy living situation where not only are there lots of people living together in small houses, but they are exceptionally noisy, loud, rude individuals. I know that her visits to my house have been a peaceful respite from the noise! Even when she was a baby, I could tell she noticed and enjoyed the quiet.
